Description

Laing built the new research building, gatehouse and services block at the Ware Glaxo site between 1985 and 1987, this £7.5m contract was Phase IV of construction at the extensive site and multiple buildings were added in following years.

Glaxo took over the Ware site when it acquired Allen and Hanbury’s, another pharmaceutical manufacturer, in 1958. Some of the original factory buildings form the main reception to the complex on Priory Street. Sir David Jack had been Director of Research and Development with Allen and Hanbury’s and subsequently with Glaxo between 1978 and 1987. Following his death in 2011 the Research and Development site on Park Road was renamed in his honour.
