Description

Speed House was part of the Phase III Barbican contract awarded to John Laing and Son Ltd in 1964. Speed House was the first block of flats to be completed, and was handed over by Sir Maurice Laing to the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Gilbert Inglefield, on Monday 21st October 1968. The photograph shows Maurice Laing on the left, the man at the centre is Eric F Wilkins, Chairman of the Barbican Committee and the Lord Mayor of London is on the right.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
