The minaret of the London Central Mosque was constructed using a slipforming technique, in which concrete is poured into the top of a continuously moving form. The form is raised at a rate which allows the concrete to harden and emerge from the form maintaining its shape. Slipforming enables rapid in-situ construction of concrete structures. The concrete for the 43 metre high minaret was poured in 10 days from the 15th to 25th September 1975. The site team worked in 12 hour long day and night shifts, six days a week, to achieve this.
