Laing Industrial Engineering and Construction Limited (IEC) were involved in the construction of a Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) Alkylation Unit at Lindsey Oil Refinery. There were many other sub-contractors on site, with Foster Wheeler as the main contractors. The project team began work on the site in May 1979. To keep the site dry and speed up progress, a 'Plettac' covering made up of numerous small panels was constructed over the site. Work carried out by Laing IEC included the installation of thirteen thousand metres of pipework, 1400 valves, 30 heat exchangers, 18 drums and vessels, and 23 pumps.
