Phase II of the Eastgate shopping centre was built by Laing's South Eastern Region for the Basildon Development Corporation, with work starting in April 1982. The development was a 10-storey block and a 5-storey block of office and shopping accommodation including an Allders department store at one end of a covered mall, a store for C&A and 70 shop units. This photograph was taken by Laing to show their fitting out contract for Allders.
This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
