Description

A £2.8 million upgrade to East Midlands Airport was completed by John Laing plc in 1986. It was the tenth time the airport had been expanded since it was opened in 1965. Extensions were built using the CLASP method of steel frame construction, which had been devised by Nottinghamshire County Council. The main concourse was extended by 3 metres at the front of the building; check in desks were repositioned and new shop units were installed. This photograph was published in the October 1988 edition of 'Team Spirit', the Laing employee newsletter.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
