Description

Construction of Windsor Leisure Pool began in April 1985, and started with the demolition of the outdoor Windsor War Memorial Swimming Pool. The complexity of the project was increased by the proximity to the River Thames, the high water table, and heavy rainfall. The octagonal building had a low pitch pyramidal roof. Special features included a four chamber wave-making machine, a spiralling slide, wild water channel, water cannons, ornamental fountain, two hot tub spas, splash pool, toddler’s pool, and beach. Outside, there was a landscaped garden with a view of the River Thames. The Windsor Leisure Pool was opened by Her Majesty the Queen on 7th April 1987. The building was extended to the east and the complex was renamed the Window Leisure Centre. The new facility was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh on 7th April 1997, exactly a decade after the original building opened.
