Description

A theodolite is a surveying instrument consisting of a rotating telescope mounted on a base. It is used for measuring horizontal and vertical angles. In the John Laing registers, this photograph is recorded as being taken for B. Jefferson. It is possible that this was part of the land surveying carried out before the addition of the western range of the London Central Mosque in the 1990's.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
