Description

Pictured on its opening day, the food court at the newly extended and refurbished shopping centre could accommodate 500 and boasted 9 food outlets serving a range of international dishes from fish & chips to pasta. The food court was built as a focus for the 165 unit, 3 storey extension to the existing Eldon Court shopping centre, the topping out ceremony was held 11 years to the day after the original shopping centre opened.

Laing won the £5.2m contract in March 1986 for completion in October 1987, a second in January 1987 to build the retail unit that bridges Blackett Street and connects the old with the new development and a third in May 1987 for improvements and upgrading across the whole Eldon Square site.
