Description

Laing won the £5.2m contract for the extension in March 1986 for completion in October 1987, a second in January 1987 to build the retail unit that bridges Blackett Street and connects the old with the new development and a third in May 1987 for improvements and upgrading across the whole Eldon Square site.

This shop front is within the 4 storey building that bridges Blackett Street, referred to as Hennes in Taam Spirit, the Laing company newsletter and pictured on the day of the centre's official opening by Prince Michael of Kent.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
