Description

Laing was awarded the contract for the redevelopment of the interior of the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in November 1989. The exterior portico built in 1911 was retained though the rest of the building had been demolished in 1988. The ark doors are made of metals set in bronze frames; it was designed as the focus of the wall. Above, the ner tamid or eternal light was designed in the style of a wishbone. Both the doors and the eternal light were designed by Amit Schur. The interior of the synagogue was completed in January 1991.
