Description

Construction of St Mary’s Church began in 1989 and was completed in 1991. The church was built on the site of the former Church of St Mary the Virgin, a mid-19th century parish church which had fallen into disrepair. The land on which the original church stood was sold and a new development known as Churchgate was built: community facilities, offices and a modern church. Among features retained from the original church were stained glass and stones forming the entrance arch.
