Description

Grand Central Pools, now known as Life Leisure Grand Central, was built by Laing's North West division for Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. The building included an Olympic-sized 50m swimming pool; the only one of its kind in Stockport. The pool had a moveable horizontal bulkhead and floating floor system, which enabled the pool to be divided into different sizes and the depth to be altered when needed. Other facilities at the centre included leisure, splash and children's pools, spectator seating, a fitness room, health suite, function room and cafeteria. Construction began in March 1991 and the building opened in 1993.
