Description

The Totton supermarket was built in conjunction with a housing development by Laing Homes West but planning consent was only given for either on the condition that the developer provided land for social housing. Laing South West won the contract to build the shell of the supermarket in January 1994 and separately the interior fit out in August the same year. The construction of the petrol station at the site was a third contract, all due for completion in November 1994. Safeway having been established in 1962 were taken over by Morrisons in 2004 and their 428 shops rebranded, another 51 had to be sold by Morrisons under competition regulations.
