Description

The man wearing the top hat, collecting for charity, is 'Mr Pastry' a stage and television character played by actor Richard Hearne (1908-1979). This photograph may have been taken on 29th May 1964 on the day the centre was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh. A photograph published in July 1964 in Laing's monthly newsletter 'Team Spirit' shows the two men shaking hands outside the shop.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
