Selby Abbey was founded in the 11th century and the present church dates from around 1100. The tower collapsed in 1690 and was repaired in around 1701-1702, and was replaced in 1908 following a fire two years earlier. Attached to the east wall of the north transept is the Latham Chapel, found in 1476 by John Latham, Archbishop of York.
