St Alkmund's was built between 1844 and 1846 on the site of earlier churches, and was referred to as 'The Church of the Holy Spite' due to its spire having been built directly in the line of sight of the Catholic St Mary's Church. It was demolished to make way for Derby's inner ring road in 1967/8.
