Description

The original caption may contain language which is historic and which may no longer be considered appropriate. It has been retained in the record in the interest of historical accuracy.

The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: “St. Charles’ nurses’ reunion. St. Charles Hospital, Ladbroke Grove, held their annual nurses reunion to-day. It was attended by a large number of former and present nurses. Photo shows:- A group of past and present nurses chatting over the teacups.”

The St Charles’ Hospital opened as the St Marylebone Union Infirmary in 1881. A Nurses’ Home was built in later that decade, and Florence Nightingale established a Training School for Nurses.
