The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: “The Cramer splint. Picture shows nurses padding the Cramer splint at all pressure points with coarse cotton wool.”
Cramer wire splints are made up of two thick parallel wires with interlacing wires, and can be bent into different shapes to immobilise different parts of the body.
