The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: “Amputation nursing care. Picture shows nurses massaging the back of a patient whose right leg has been amputated. He is not rolled on his side, but his back is massaged and sheets changed while two nurses lift him, and the third nurse assists. (Picture taken at St. Nicholas Orthopaedic Hospital, Bylfeet, Surrey)”
