The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: “Production of defibrinated blood. Picture shows how the needle, still in its holder, is examined under the microscope to see whether grinding is correct. If returned for further grinding the needle registers in exactly the same position on the stone. (Photographed by courtesy of Dr. G.F.C.Searle, F.R.S., who designed and made the needle-holder unit.”
