Description

The original caption may contain language which is historic and which may no longer be considered appropriate. It has been retained in the record in the interest of historical accuracy.

The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: “The child in hospital. Picture shows children and their nurses in the open air.”

The Windsor Union Workhouse was built in 1839-40. It later became known as Crimp Hill House, then Old Windsor Hospital. In 1940, additional wards were built on the west of the site as part of the Emergency Medical Service. By the 1970s, the hospital had become the Old Windsor Unit of King Edward VII Hospital, and functioned as a hospital for the elderly. It closed in 1991; the buildings were converted into residential housing. See also MED01/01/3059-3060 and MED01/01/3062-3067.
