Description

The original caption may contain language which is historic and which may no longer be considered appropriate. It has been retained in the record in the interest of historical accuracy.

The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: “War Memorial Hospital Darlington. Pix shows part of one of the children’s ward.”

Darlington Memorial Hospital was officially opened in May 1933; the £110,000 cost was largely raised by the town and district. It was built as Darlington’s memorial to those who served and died during the First World War. See also MED01/01/3550-3559.
