The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: “Inspection of Amble Red Cross nurses. The Amble (Northumberland) Detachment of the Biriths Red Cross Nurses paraded for an inspection by their Commandant – Mrs. Herbert Shaw, of Warkworth, Northumberland – held in the Amble A.R.P. first Aid Post where they are doing duty. Photo shows:- Mrs. Herbert Shaw, the Commandant (left) inspecting a line of nurses. Mrs. W. Ballantyne, the Assisting Commandant is on the extreme left (facing camera).”
