Description

From the 1870s the Portsmouth Road connecting the Angel Inn at Thames Ditton and The Anchor at Ripley was a mecca for cyclists. Despite standing less than two miles from The Anchor, The Hut public house managed to attract its fair share of cyclists, perhaps thanks to its proximity to Bolder Mere. The much larger 'Hut Hotel' was a later addition, built immediately adjacent to the Hut public house. Both 'Huts' have since been demolished to allow for the widening of the A3 Portsmouth Road.
