The carved stone fireplace and overmantel in the Great Hall of Longleat House. The fireplace dates to the 1560s and was designed by Alan Maynard and is the only Maynard fireplace in the house to remain in its original position.

Description

The photograph was taken by the architect and architectural historian John Alfred Gotch (1852-1942), who had a special interest in Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture.

Archival History

This photograph was withdrawn from the Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-12 Red Box Project.
