Description

The motto of the Birchfield Harriers athletics club (founded in 1877) is 'Fleet and Free'. The club moved to Alexander Stadium, also known as Alexander Sports Ground, when it opened in 1929. In 1978 the Birchfield Harriers moved to the new Alexander Stadium in Perry Park. Greyhound racing began at the stadium in 1984, and it was renamed the Perry Barr Stadium or Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium. This photograph was published on page 46 of 'Played in Birmingham' by Steve Beauchampe and Simon Inglis.
