Description

The reverse of this print is marked 'Alverton, near Truro', and on the front is written, almost illegibly, 'Erickson, American Engineer'. It is possible that this is a portrait of John Ericcson, the nineteenth-century Swedish-American engineer and inventor of the steam screw ship engine, but at present this cannot be confirmed. It is also unclear what the link between Ericcson and Alverton in Cornwall could be.
