Description

A monastery has been present on St Michael's Mount since the 8th century. It became a Benedictine alien monastery between 1042 and 1050, but from 1050 until 1087-91, when it was granted to Mont Saint-Michel, it was an independent Benedictine monastery. The priory was seized by the Crown in 1337 when the rock was fortified.
