Renewal of one of the girders of the Royal Albert Bridge in July 1928, using a specially-engineered mobile adjustable hoist to lower the girder into place. The rail bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and was completed in 1859

A stamp on the reverse of the print reads 'G.W.R. Engineer's Office, Paddington, Photographic Department. Negative No. B Box 1 8 6-14, Negative taken 22 Jul 1928, Print despatched 10 Aug 1928'.

Archival History

This image was received from Timothy Lingard, owner of the Gallery Lingard in Pall Mall, London, who specialised in architectural drawings and perspectives. These images were part of the larger Sotheby's auction lot 524, 28/04/1988, and were unwanted by Lingard and subsequently donated to the N.M.R.
