Description

The Land Settlement scheme was established in 1935 to provide houses and land for unemployed workers so they could earn a living with what they grew on their smallholding. Unfortunately it was erratically managed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Foods, who became the smallholders' sole supplier and customer, and was closed down in 1981.
