Description

For Listing. Photographer's note: 'Laurence King designed the church in collaboration with engineers Ove Arup and Partners, this consisting a reinforced portal frame with a folded-slab roof to integrate an unbroken clerestory, creating a light and airy interior without distracting from the focal point of the chancel at the east end. Owing to the proximity of Northolt Aerodrome, a tower was not allowed, so instead, a small latticed polygonal spire rises above the west end. The Church of St Mary is a notable example of Laurence King’s post-war work, exhibited in as an exemplar of modern church building in 1954 and published in the national architectural press following completion in 1960. King was a prolific church builder, mostly known for his post-war churches in suburban contexts.'
