Description

Photographer's note: 'The site was established by the Imperial Gas Light and Coke Company in 1853 to store gas for their Shoreditch works, which was located a short distance to the west on what is now Haggerston Park'. Gasholder no.5 of 1889 has a lattice girder guide frame built by the firm Samuel Cutler and Sons of Millwall. No. 2 dates from 1866 and is the oldest surviving example of a classical columnar guide frame in the world.
