On 14 October 2023, the Historic England Archive supported an event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Leeds West Indian Centre, now known as the Leeds Caribbean and African Centre. The event included the display of a selection of photographs from the Historic England Archive’s Property Services Agency Collection that were taken at the Centre in April 1983. Historic England photographer Olivia Hemingway attended the 40th anniversary event, and photographed the building, visitors and speakers. Some of the photographs echo those taken in 1983, including shots of a steelpan orchestra and games of dominoes.
