A series of twenty black and white photographs (including two tinted prints) used by the architects, Leonard G. Allen and Gordon F. Allen, whilst working on the Odeon Cinema at 114 – 120 Westbourne Grove, the London Pavilion and the Kit Cat Restaurant, formerly the Kit Cat Club, on Haymarket.
There are nine prints showing the Kit Cat Restaurant, underneath the Capitol Cinema on Haymarket. Of these, one shows the main entrance to the venue and was taken by Sydney W. Newbery, whilst the remainder, all interior views, were by the photographic firm, Grove, Son and Boulton. Based on a notice in the window of Newbery’s photograph, the images are thought to have been taken in either 1927 or 1931, when the restaurant was reopened after a short closure.
The photographs of the Odeon Cinema are by A. C. K. Ware (photographs) Ltd and were taken in 1955, showing the building soon after completion. They are predominantly interior views of the entrance foyer, auditorium and circle foyer, although there is one exterior print.
There is only one print of the London Pavilion. It is probably a later print of an earlier image, taken c1900 – 1914, and is tinted.
