Description
The collection contains film negatives in colour and black and white of oblique aerial views produced by Airviews between about 1947 and 1991.
The negatives in this series have numbers ranging from 18 to 94909. The sequence is far from complete however and the estimated total is based on the number of boxes (76) multiplied by an estimated number of negatives in each box (1000). Reasons for the gaps may include breakages and losses, unassigned numbers, clients having custody of negatives, or compilation of the alphabetical filing system (see AFL03/17).
Details of each negative are recorded in registers numbered 87 to 92 on the register handlist (AFL03/03) and these often include date, client, location and photographer.
Archival History
The Airviews collection, which seems to have begun in 1947, was purchased by Aerofilms in 1979 although Airviews continued to trade separately until 1992.
