Description
The collection contains film transparencies in a variety of sizes in colour of oblique aerial views produced by Aerofilms between about 1962 and 1991.
The items in this series have a numerical reference range from C/T 4309 to C/T 21,898, a separate range for London transparencies of C/T 8 to C/T 21,708, and a separate range for foreign targets beyond the British Isles C/T 169 to C/T 11178. There are also some images taken on the ground of foreign targets and these have the references ABG1 to ABG16. The estimated quantity is made on the basis of the number of boxes (22) multiplied by the estimated number of items in each box. There are numerous gaps in the numerical sequence. Reasons for the gaps include damages and losses, unassigned numbers, and clients having custody of negatives.
Details of each negative are recorded in registers numbered 60 to 63 on the register handlist (AFL03/03) and these often include date, client, location and photographer.
Other reference numbers are occassionally marked on the transparency packaging including 'SV' and 'A/C'. Most of the transparencies are stored in black card support frames.
