Description

The collection contains about 2000 black and white photographs of places and people in countries other than the UK and Ireland. The prints were acquired by 'Country Life' magazine from a variety of photographers and organisations to illustrate primarily articles on travel and architecture. The photographs are rarely dated but they were probably taken between about 1920 and 1960. They include interior and exterior views of historic houses, and views of towns and cities.

The photographs are arranged into packets for the following geographical areas: Algeria, Antarctica, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt and Sudan, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Holland (The Netherlands), Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, Mexico, Norway, Pakistan, Palestine, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and East Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States of America (USA), Yemen and Yugoslavia. There are a few photographs of unidentified locations.
