Description

The early photography in this project dates from March 2002 when English Heritage photographers recorded sports facilities in Manchester and its environs to help inform the English Heritage pilot study 'A Sporting Chance'. Some of the photographs can be seen in the publications - 'A Sporting Chance: Extra time for England's historic sports venues' published in June 2002, and 'Played in Manchester' by Simon Inglis, 2004.

The project now includes photography for other publications in the 'Played in Britain' series. 'Played in Britain' is the result of a collaboration between English Heritage, Malavan Media and some of the country's leading experts on sporting heritage, and comprises a series of books covering the architecture and social history associated with Britain's sporting past.
