A project initiated by the Planning and Development, and Properties and Outreach sections of English Heritage, to document the changing landscape in Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Sandwell, Walsall and Dudley. The project is intended to produce a publication, touring exhibition and film. The project has been delayed, the documentary film was meant to be complete in November 2006 but encountered problems.
"In parts of Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Sandwell, Walsall and Dudley the built environment has significantly changed in some areas over the last fifty years as the communities who live and work there have positively made their mark on the way their environment looks. These distinct areas and exciting 'cultural townscapes' are part of England's environment today and part of the heritage of the future. This project aims to begin a dialogue with the people who live in these areas and understand how communities feel about the places in which they live and what is important to them. It aims to find out more about how and why some areas are being physically shaped by the communities that have made them their home or place of work, and to recognise and celebrate these places for their diversity and contribution to England's evolving historic landscape through a touring exhibition and publication. This project is being developed with the regional Planning & Development team and local partners. The film will be made within the communities of Wolverhampton, Smethwick and Birmingham."
