Description

Survey of earthworks on Tower Hill, Porton Down, by RCHME Swindon office, revealed traces of an apparent sub-rectangular enclosure, some 35m across, surrounding the crown of the hill. It is defined in the south-west by a shallow bank no more than 0.5m high with a corresponding external ditch. Traces of a possible counterscarp lie outside this. In the north and east a simple scarp c3m wide completes the circuit. The feature underlies Benson's Folly (SU 23 SW 80) and may be prehistoric in date.

The file also contains drafts of an external report by David Ride on Benson's Folly, with correspondence between Ride and Sheila Ely.
