Description
English Heritage Exeter Office undertook an archaeological investigation and survey of the area in autumn 2001 and the spring of 2002 at the request of the EH Inspector for Devon. Crownhill Down is an area of unenclosed moorland outside the Dartmoor National Park which is subject to a planning enquiry for opencast china clay operations. The moorland has a multiperiod archaeological landscape which includes a prehistoric field system, barrows and tin mining remains. The results of this survey will provide a means of informing future planning and management decisions.
