The series contains 193 slides showing buildings which have been converted from their original use when built. Most of these buildings have been converted for residential, retail or office space. Many of the slides show converted churches, schools, and farm buildings; barn conversions are frequently shown, including some early examples which are thought to have been converted in the 1970s. Also included are industrial buildings (e.g. warehouses, works, and maltings) which have been converted into offices, apartments and shopping arcades. Other examples including railway stations, hospitals and asylums, and seaside railway carriages. There are also a handful of Martello towers, either converted or in the process of being converted into domestic use. While many of the buildings have a long history of use pre-conversion, others are more modern, including 1960s office blocks converted into flats (such as Ravenscroft, Broxbourne, and Marathon House, Marylebone Road, London). There is good coverage across most regions of England.
This is part of the Sub Series: EFC01/01/05 Domestic Building Types; within the Series: EFC01/01 Series of 35mm slides; within the Collection: EFC01 Edifice Collection
