Description

This series contains 359 colour slides showing cottages and other houses. As well as general dwellings, some buildings are representations of purpose-built lodges, gatehouses, estate cottages, polygonal cottages, or farmhouses. Many are thatched and are built of traditional materials such as flint, marlstone, slate, carstone and chalk. Although often in rural settings, a handful of the buildings shown are located in large towns or cities including Oxford, London and Chelmsford. 55 of the slides show houses in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

Some photographs may show buildings also depicted in the series EFC01/01/05/008 Polygonal Cottages, EFC01/01/05/013 Estate Cottages, EFC01/01/05/014 Farmhouses, and EFC01/01/05/016 Gatehouses and Lodges.
