Description

Forty-two reconstruction drawings and three general illustrations depicting sites within the Avebury World Heritage Site, produced for reproduction in site guidebooks and other publications and/or on information panels placed at the sites themselves.

The illustrations include reconstructions of Avebury Henge and Stone Circle, The Sanctuary at Overton Hill, Silbury Hill, Windmill Hill Causewayed Enclosure and West Kennet Long Barrow.Additionally, there are drawings of ornaments, weapons and pottery from the Early Neolithic period and the Early Bronze Age which were produced for a 1976 Department of Environment Avebury handbook.

Illustrators whose work is represented include Ivan Lapper, Judith Dobie, Joanne Turner and Peter Schofield. There are five Oversized Drawings included in this set of illustrations.

There are also five black and white preliminary sketches, created by Ivan Lapper. These have not been catalogued at item level.
