Description

A folder containing eight reconstruction illustrations and nine general illustrations concerning the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament), the Jewel Tower and Westminster Abbey), created between 1957 and 1993.

The earliest item is a reconstruction illustration created by Alan Sorrell in 1957, depicting the Jewel Tower and Westminster Abbey. There are nine illustrations created by Terry Ball; seven reconstruction illustrations depicting New Palace Yard, the Palace of Westminster and the Jewel Tower, and two further sketches of New Palace Yard with reconstructed late-medieval fountain. Terry Ball's works in this folder were created between 1973 and 1993.

There are also seven design proposal illustrations created between 1972 and 1974 by architectural watercolourist Edmund J Thring, which detail design proposals for landscaping above the subterranean car park underneath New Palace Yard tot he immediate north-east of the Houses of Parliament. These drawings appear to relate directly to some of the reconstruction illustrations by Terry Ball in this folder, as there appears to have been an intention to recreate one of the medieval fountains that once stood in New Palace Yard as part of the proposed landscaping works.
