Description

There are 716 drawings in this set, though they are only numbered to MP/CAR0715 as there is a sheet MP/CAR0262A.

Most of the drawings date from the twentieth century, though there a number from the eighteenth-century, one from 1889 and several from 2000 to 2006.

Ten sheets from 1723 show the site and the governor's residence. Several, dating from between 1912 and 1914, relate to a later set from 1985, and show proposals for electrical, hot water, heating and gas services to various buildings on the castle site.

Plans for the extension of the tea rooms begin to appear from the 1930s. Some proposals for a new café / restaurant and ticket office date from the 1960s, and there is an overview of the existing tea room building in the late 1980s, partly incorporating photographs. There are more proposals for a new restaurant from between 1995 and 1997, culminating in the conversion of the coach house to tea rooms.

Plans for a new car-park start in the 1950s and continue into the 1980s. A large number of sheets from the 1990s relate to work on the castle's donkey centre and its related buildings.

From the 1990s onwards there are photogrammetric and topographic surveys, sheets relating to improved disabled access and smaller groups of drawings relating to buildings on site including the coach house, gatehouse, constable's lodging, great hall, public toilets and Chapel of St Peter. There are also rectified photographic surveys showing the privy garden and garden walls and the powder magazine.

There is a group of twenty-two sketch plans relating to the castle museum which were produced from 1997 and digitised to 2003, some of which are oversized (there are twenty-two oversized drawings in total).

The most recent sheets are from a colour rectified photographic survey of the Isabella and King Charles rooms made in 2012.
