The 190 drawings of Chester Castle and City Walls range in date from 1741 to 2005, and include three oversized drawings. The earliest drawings are copies of eighteenth century maps and drawings of the barracks.

From 1912 is a series of nine plans of the Castle made by the Office of Works which were copied and amended up until 1952.

From 1912 to around 1923 are fifteen drawings made by the Office of Works planning the transfer of stores from the Agricola Tower to a new building. The Office of Works produced four drawings in 1920 for a new fire engine house. There are several other drawings by the Office of Works from the early 1920s relating to refurbishments made at this time.

In 1937 the Office of Works produced six drawings of designs for converting the Agricola Tower to a museum.

From 1936 -1963 are four plans of the castle based on Ordnance Survey drawings amended by the army (Chief Engineer Western Command) showing the designation for military use of castle buildings.

In 1975 the Department of the Environment commissioned Plowman Craven & Associates to make a measured survey of the castle, resulting in four drawings.

From sometime in the 1970s or 1980s James Brotherhood & Associates produced eight plans of the Castle, and the same firm were later commissioned by English Heritage to produce four further plans.

In 1977 and 1978 Chester City Council carried out a survey of the City Walls which produced six drawings. In 1979 Chester City Council commissioned Photarc Surveys Ltd to carry out a photogrammetric survey of the City Walls resulting in a further six drawings.

There are two reconstruction drawings of the Castle at circa 1750 by David Vale from 1981.

There are six drawings from the 1979 - 1982 excavations directed by Peter Hough for the Department of the Environment.

From 1982 are eighteen drawings from a survey of the Half Moon Tower by Plowman Craven & Associates for the Department of the Environment.

In 1985 and 1988 Photarc Surveys Ltd made another eight photogrammetric survey drawings of the City Wall for Chester City Council.

From the late twentieth- and early twenty-first-centuries there are a number of sheets relating to repairs and maintenance produced by several architectural practices including Stansfield, Burton and Agar, and Arrol and Snell Ltd.

In 2004 and 2005 Mason Land Surveys produced four sheets of rectified photography of the Flag Tower for English Heritage.
