Hippodrome, 52-58, Middle Street, Brighton - Brighton and Hove, City of (UA)
Originally an ice rink by Kerslake dating from 1896. Converted to a circus theatre in1901 to designs by the leading theatre architect Frank Matcham and then to a variety theatre in 1902 by Bertie Crewe. Currently vacant but a new private owner has acquired the building and completed much needed urgent repair works including providing a new roof to arrest water ingress. Listed Building Consent and Planning Applications are under consideration by the Local Authority for use of the Hippodrome as a multi-entertainment venue with apart-hotel units in the service yard.
