Chatterley Whitfield: Hesketh heapstead (6) and mine car circuit (24) - Stoke-on-Trent, City of (UA)

Chatterley Whitfield Hesketh heapstead was constructed in 1915-17. The Hesketh shaft was the last shaft to be sunk at the colliery. Attached to the south end is a mine car circuit (also known as the tub hall) which was erected circa 1952. The whole colliery site is now vacant and these buildings are in very poor condition. Much of the tub hall’s conveyor has been removed as a safety precaution, and in 2013 part of the lower concrete floor at the heapstead collapsed. The City Council are continuing to explore longer term proposals which include reuse of the site.
